Front-end Developer

You’re comfortable working in ambiguity, thinking both creatively and analytically, and are eager to own the development process from start to finish. You have a deep understanding of UX/UI best practices, know how to balance performance and design, and enjoy creating highly responsive and visually compelling applications.

The Opportunity:

As a Front-end Developer at YDP, you’ll own the implementation of our user-facing web application and play a key role in defining the front-end architecture from the ground up, sometimes in quick iterations, until we learn what works best for our customers. This is a unique opportunity to join a small, high-performing team and make a lasting impact by establishing the foundation of our user interface. You’ll collaborate closely with the founding team to conceptualize, develop, and refine the platform. With your expertise in data visualization, responsive design, and modern front-end technologies, you’ll ensure that our application is fast, lightweight, and highly responsive.

What You'll Do:

• Own the user experience implementation: Lead the development of the user-facing web application, from design to deployment.
• Develop features from scratch: Build, iterate, and refine features quickly to discover what works best for users.
• Ensure a seamless user interface: Advocate for and implement UI/UX best practices, ensuring users are at the heart of every design decision.
• Optimize data visualizations: Present complex data through fast, lightweight, and visually compelling front-end components.
• Collaborate closely with the team: Work directly with founders to define user needs and translate them into feasible engineering solutions.
• Drive performance optimization: Ensure the platform is scalable, responsive, and adheres to web performance best practices.
• Stay on top of trends: Keep up-to-date with the latest front-end technologies and integrate them as needed to enhance the platform.
• Establish foundational front-end practices: Lay the groundwork that will guide future team members and development efforts.

Must-Haves in a Candidate:

• 3+ years of front-end development experience: Proficiency with React, Next.js, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Experience with the entire web development process: Design, development, and deployment.
• API integration expertise: Proficient in securely and efficiently fetching data from multiple sources.
• Data visualization experience: Demonstrated ability to present complex data effectively on the front end.
• Familiarity with source control tools: Preferably Git.
• Strong UX/UI mindset: Ability to fill in UX gaps and advocate for best practices in design and performance.
• Startup mindset: Comfortable working with minimal bureaucracy and solving ambiguous problems creatively and analytically.
• Excellent collaboration skills: Ability to work closely with team members across functions and communicate effectively.
• Problem-solving aptitude: Enthusiastic about overcoming challenges.

Nice to Have in a Candidate:

• Experience with AWS: Hands-on knowledge of EC2, S3, RDS, or Lambda.
• Previous startup experience: Comfortable working in an early-stage environment where things change quickly.
• Familiarity with Node.js or similar backend technologies.
